Hi! Welcome to Tayste (my last name happens to be Tay, therefore Tayste!). This is where I share about my food, my own journey to health, my struggles, and the how to’s on living well in a real, sustainable way for peeps with food intolerances/food allergies. For me,it’s my way of doing my bit given the knowledge I’ve been blessed with to make a difference, hopefully!
The quick version is I’ve been prone to sickness most of my life, how I’d define that would be never feeling 80 percent well (I would be the first to catch a cold, my throat was sore or scratchy most mornings when I woke up, and my sinuses were never quite clear). Keeping well, has always been a struggle, even when I thought – I was eating all the right things.
After I had both my daughters, my health, especially my sinus issues also got worse, I think this also happened because I moved back home to sunny and very humid Singapore (humidity affects sinuses!). Medication was the only treatment that seemed to work, and then when many rounds of antibiotics spectacularly failed in ridding me of several chronic sinus infections, I ended up seeing Dr YH Goh, my ENT(Ear nose throat) holistic doctor that changed my life and the way I ate.
In a nutshell, realising I had food intolerances made such a difference, retraining my body to crave and eat the right foods (it really forced me to think out of the box and be more nutritive focused instead of calorie focused) saved my health and my family’s and so I was compelled, called, to share my discoveries – healing through tasty, real, delicious good for you food has become my newfound passion. Hence the site – and I hope you get the Asian bent of gluten, dairy, nut, preservative free recipes you may have been looking for.
Even if you are a lucky someone who doesn’t get sick because of the foods you eat, I hope you will give my recipes a try, or read my health related articles in my Life section, or share my site with someone you think it will benefit!
Other facts about Tiana
I spent most of my early life in Singapore, in my adult years I’ve called Sydney, Los Angeles and Hong Kong home – my recipes are largely influenced by what I’ve eaten in these places.
I love Asian and Italian food – Japanese food is my favourite to make and cook, I now eat quinoa pasta so I can still have my Italian fix.
I have a slightly under active thyroid that’s why seafood, seaweed and iodine rich foods are often featured in my posts.
I love collecting cute plates and kitchen gadgets – check out my hasami porcelain plates on my posts drool worthy!
White carbs are my comfort food, you will see them on the site since my kids love them despite my efforts (I have tried as hard as possible to give you other alternatives, really😁😳)
